The Lazy Labor Day - Day

Happy Labor Day!

When I was little, Labor Day was always the day before school started. We would have picnic parties where everyone would bring a dish, we'd eat buffet style, and then we'd play games, volleyball and baseball, and we might even go swimming if it was hot enough. As time went on, Labor Day became less about having one last hurrah before school started and more about being an extra day to relax - an extended Sunday if you will.

And that's exactly what this Labor Day has been for me. I feel like I've been very lazy today. It doesn't help that all day it's been so dark because of torrential downpours and thunderstorms so bad that the thunder would shake my house. Rainy days like today make me want to nap and cuddle under my blankets.

I was woken up very early today by a text from my aunt. {insert eye roll here.} My aunt wakes up at zero dark thirty everyday and just automatically assumes that everyone else does or should. Seriously, this morning I cursed myself for ever teaching my aunt how to text. But, I turned over and went back to sleep for a few hours. Then lazed in bed for a while before getting up and doing a little bit of painting. Then I chatted with my sister on the phone for a bit while making and eating lunch. Then I had a shower because when I paint I tend to get paint all over me and everything else within several feet of my paintbrush. And now here I am, with wet hair, my blue and pink polka dotted jammies, my fuzzy slippers, with a home renovation tv show playing in the back ground as I sit with my feet up on my couch and sip on a cup of pumpkin spice tea.

BTW... to the person who left a note for me about the pumpkin spice tea - You rock! I never knew they even made such a thing. This weekend I went searching for it. I found it online and had it in my shopping cart, but I wanted to see if my local stores had it. The two grocery stores I like didn't have it, but this little pharmacy that's about thirty minutes away had it. I don't go to this pharmacy for any prescriptions or anything like that. I found it a year or two ago (?) when I was on a mad search for Necco Wafers and Clark Bars. Remember those? I loved Clark Bars and chocolate Necco Wafers were my favorite! So, when Necco stopped making candy I stocked up. It was at this pharmacy that I scored big! This pharmacy is also a gift shop and it has three huge rows of candy. Back in the day I spent big $$ on every chocolate Necco Wafer that they had. They also have a wall of so many different teas. And, long story short, I found the pumpkin spice tea! It actually cost more than if I bought a two pack online, but I find comfort in the fact that I supported a local mom and pop store.

I'm actually enjoying the fact that I have no plans for the day and I'm putting no pressure on myself to get anything done. Maybe in a little bit I'll nap a little and for dinner tonight I'm planning on making some homemade potato soup. It's the rain that's making me want comfort foods and my potato soup recipe is high up there on my comfort foods list.

Well, it sounds like another thunderstorm is getting close. Time for me to get back to vegging out in front of my tv.
